From the Author.

A Mahjong set is like a deck of cards. You can play many different games or "Styles" with it.

So far, I have learned 4 styles of Mahjong: American, Japanese, British and Shanghai. All are fun, but Shanghai Style is by far the most engaging, requiring you to use your own imagination, creativity and flexibility to make winning hands.

Additionally, you do not have a partner, so if you make a mistake, no one gets aggravated with you. In fact, the other players are quite pleased!

After being asked to teach a small group how to play, I wrote 5 pages of instructional text. 12 years later those 5 pages have grown to a 29 page book with easy to read instructions for total beginners, progressing to becoming advanced players.

I am confident this book will give you the knowledge necessary to begin and love the exciting game of Shanghai Mahjong.

Sincerely,
Susan Gilbert
